The family of Osinachi Nwachukwu, the late 'Ekwueme' singer, has denied reports that she died of cancer. Osinachi died on Friday night after battling the illness, according to reports.

The singer's family now claims that she died in hospital as a result of domestic violence perpetrated by her husband.

Ms Favor Made, Osinachi's sister, stated that Osinachi died as a result of a 'cluster of blood' in the chest caused by her husband, Peter Nwachukwu's alleged assault.

“We heard it was cancer that killed Osinachi. She did not die of cancer. The husband, Mr Peter Nwachukwu hit her with his leg on the chest. All this while, he has been beating her but my sister hides all that she was passing through from us,” she told Vanguard (a publication in Nigeria) on Sunday.

She claimed Osinachi was a victim of domestic abuse & that her family advised her to leave the marriage, but she refused until Peter allegedly kicked her in the chest and caused her to collapse.

“We told her that they are not divorcing and that it’s just a separation. But she felt that God is against divorce. She will always tell us to relax and that the man will change," she narrated.

“So when the man kicked her in the chest, she fell down and he took her to the hospital but he did not even tell us."

Ms Made said that when she arrived at the hospital, the doctor informed her that Osinachi's chest had 'clusters of blood.'

“It was the hitting on the chest that killed her. My brother had to ask the doctor what killed her and the doctor said that there were clusters of blood on her chest,” she said.

Ms Made went on to say that Peter did not contact their family until 8 p.m., when he casually informed their mother of Osinachi's death.

Nkwechuku's death sparked outrage among her fans and friends, including her colleague Frank Edwards, who revealed the shocking news on Saturday.

He claimed that the late singer had an abusive husband who regularly brutalized her while going live on Instagram.

"One time in a studio, this man slapped her in the studio just because she wanted to record the song in Igbo against his will," he said, recalling an encounter with the singer. She does not do anything on her own.”
